Biography

Xuchen Zhang, Professor of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine, specializes in gastrointestinal and liver pathology. He completed his medical degree at Chengde Medical College in 1988, and earned his PhD from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in 2000. Following his residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and fellowship training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Zhang joined the faculty at Yale in 2012, where he directs the GI/Liver Pathology Service. Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on liver and GI pathology, including both neoplastic and non-neoplastic liver conditions, pancreatic neoplasms, and colorectal cancer. He has published over 240 scientific articles and book chapters and serves on the editorial board of Practical Liver Pathology. In addition, Dr. Zhang is involved in academic teaching and has been recognized for his excellence in teaching pathology residents. His notable educational contributions also extend to various professional pathology societies. Dr. Zhang is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists, and presently chairs the Education Committee of the Hans Popper Hepatopathology Society. He is passionate about advancing understanding in his field through collaborative research and active participation in professional pathology organizations.
