Biography

Xuebin Zhang is a Professor at the University of Victoria, where he also serves as the Director of the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC). With extensive expertise in the detection and attribution of climate change, weather shifts, and climate extremes, his work focuses on understanding climate change impacts at both regional and global scales. Prior to joining UVic, he was a Senior Research Scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada. Zhang has made significant contributions to multiple Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, notably as a Coordinating Lead Author for chapters dealing with changes in weather and climate extremes in the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report. He is actively involved in the World Climate Research Program and co-chairs the Expert Team for Climate Change Detection Indices as part of the Grand Challenge on Weather and Climate Extremes. Zhang is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, reflecting his contributions to understanding the Earth's climate system and guiding large-scale scientific research projects.
