Biography

Dr. Ban’s research interests are in transportation network system modeling and simulation, urban traffic system modeling and operations, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). He develops modeling tools to study dynamic transportation networks that incorporate emerging technologies, including connected and automated vehicles and shared mobility. His research focuses on urban traffic system state estimation and prediction using mobile sensing data. Dr. Ban has received significant funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other organizations. He has authored more than 100 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He was previously an Associate Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has held positions within the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and Institute of Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). Dr. Ban currently directs the Intelligent Urban Transportation Systems (iUTS) lab at the University of Washington and serves as an Associate Editor for several prominent journals in the field.
