Dr. Xuhai Xu

Biography

Xuhai "Orson" Xu is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. His research focuses on applying human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence methods to health applications. He leads the SEA Lab, where the aim is to leverage everyday data to build human-centered methods, devices, and systems that enhance human health and well-being. Xuhai collaborates with self-motivated undergraduate and graduate students on research projects in human-AI interaction and AI applications in health and medicine. His work includes behavior modeling and health prediction, with the development of deployable algorithms that monitor health conditions using sensor data. He actively publishes in the field, with involvement in multiple projects that explore personalized behavior modeling and actionable insights interpretation. Xuhai has several ongoing commitments, including a visiting faculty position at Google Health. He is dedicated to helping users achieve their health goals while supporting health experts in decision-making.
