Professor Lee’s research and teaching focus on the interactions between the terrestrial biosphere and the atmosphere, particularly in response to anthropogenic drivers. His areas of interest include boundary-layer meteorology, micrometeorological instrumentation, remote sensing, and carbon cycle science. Ongoing projects investigate greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial environments such as forests, cropland, and lakes, as well as the use of isotopic tracers for cycling carbon dioxide and water vapor. His lab employs a variety of research methodologies including field observations through eddy covariance and optical isotope instruments, mathematical models like land surface and earth system models, and environmental remote sensing using satellites and drones. In addition, Professor Lee teaches courses such as 'Physical Science of Climate Change,' 'Observing Earth from Space,' 'Workshop on Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry with Drones,' and 'Boundary-Layer Meteorology.' He is currently accepting doctoral students to study these important interactions.
