Xuyu Liu is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer and Sydney Cardiovascular Research Fellow at the University of Sydney. He began his studies in biomedical science, majoring in molecular pharmacology and medicinal chemistry, in 2005 in New Zealand and later obtained a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science from Victoria University of Wellington. He completed his doctoral training in chemical biology under the supervision of Professor Richard Payne at the University of Sydney in 2017. His PhD focused on developing new peptide ligation technologies for the efficient preparation of bioactive peptide libraries for cardiovascular drug discovery. Following his PhD, he took on postdoctoral positions at Cornell University and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, where he worked on interdisciplinary projects investigating lipid electrophile-signalling pathways in cancer cells. His contributions have been recognized in the anti-cancer research field, earning him a nomination for the Blavatnik Award in 2018 and a Royal Society Chemistry Prize for Research Excellence. Dr. Liu’s current research interests include developing new chemical synthesis methods and proteomic platforms for precision medicine. He collaborates closely with cardiologists and haematologists at the Charles Perkins Centre and the Heart Research Institute to guide next-generation precision medicine development and improve cardiovascular drug therapies. He has an extensive background in teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and postgraduate students, receiving accolades such as the Postgraduate Teaching Fellowship and the George Harris Scholarship.
