Biography

Yadong Wang obtained his Ph.D. degree from Stanford University in 1999 and performed postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the Georgia Institute of Technology as an assistant professor in 2003 and was later recruited to the University of Pittsburgh in 2008. Wang has published high-impact articles throughout his academic career in prestigious journals such as Science, Nature Biotechnology, and Nature Medicine. His inventions have been licensed, and he has developed commercially available polymers approved for clinical use. Yadong co-founded companies to translate technologies developed in his laboratory. His research primarily focuses on creating biomaterials to solve key challenges in the cardiovascular, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems. Notably, his team is advancing projects in artery tissue engineering using biodegradable elastomers that guide cells in making living arterial tissues. This innovative approach uniquely synthesizes elastin to engineer arterial tissue, facilitating clinical translation. Wang's work has been recognized for breaking new ground in tissue engineering, including a significant study reported in Nature Medicine in 2012. His ongoing projects also include controlled drug delivery systems for growth factors, enhancing their efficacy while minimizing side effects. Yadong Wang's collaborative approach in his lab prioritizes translational research that leverages a strong background in developmental biology and synthetic biomaterials.
