Biography

Yael completed a Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of New South Wales in 2011, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013 under the supervision of Dr. Aaron Beck. Currently, Yael leads the Youth Mental Health team at the Kids Research Institute in Australia, located in Perth, and holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia. They are the Chair of the Australian Regional Network for International Partnership in Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR). Yael's research is focused on preventing mental health difficulties and promoting mental wellbeing among marginalized young people, particularly those in the LGBTQA+ community. They work collaboratively with young people, families, and various stakeholders to understand the factors contributing to poor mental health and explore ways to improve mental health outcomes. Yael is also passionate about advocating for LGBTQA+ rights and is an invited member of the Expert Advisory Group for Australia’s national LGBTIQA+ Health & Wellbeing 10 Year Action Plan.
