Yajaira studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Universidad Autonoma Madrid (1995) and completed her PhD at Miguel Angel Lasuncion Hospital, Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Spain) (1996-2001). Her research focuses on understanding novel regulatory mechanisms in endothelial cell and macrophage functions, which play vital roles in angiogenic and inflammatory responses under critical pathophysiological conditions such as atherosclerosis and cancer. Key areas of her program include studying non-coding RNAs, metabolic regulation in macrophages, and novel mechanisms in cholesterol metabolism relative to cardiometabolic diseases.
