Biography

Yale Patt is a Professor and holds the Virginia H. Cockrell Centennial Chair in Engineering at the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He earned his B.S. from Northeastern University and both his M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University in electrical engineering. He is known for his contributions to computer architecture and has received numerous awards such as the IEEE/ACM Eckert-Mauchly Award in 1996 and the ACM Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award in 2000. He has also been honored with the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Computer and Cognitive Science in 2016, and various other prestigious accolades throughout his career. As an educator, Patt has taught at several institutions including Cornell University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Michigan. He has published over 200 refereed papers and co-authored the textbook 'Introduction to Computing Systems: From bits and gates to C and C++', which has been widely adopted in universities worldwide. With a passion for teaching, he introduced a new required freshman course at UT Austin and continues to supervise several PhD students in their research endeavors.
