Yali Tang is an associate professor in the Power Flow group within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on fluid dynamics and transport phenomena in engineering applications involving multiphase flows and physicochemical conversions. His work is centered on the development and utilization of advanced computational models to study interphase interactions and interfacial transport, complemented by experimental validations. Yali collaborates with industrial partners to target high-impact application areas such as Iron Power technology, green steel production, and alkaline water electrolysis for hydrogen generation. His aim is to qualitatively and quantitatively predict multiphase flows that shape the future of reactor design and to create novel application concepts. Yali completed his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, and went on to obtain his PhD from TU/e under the supervision of Prof. J.A.M. (Hans) Kuipers, focusing on Direct Numerical Simulations of hydrodynamics in dense gas-solid flows. Following his PhD, he worked as a postdoc in the same research group, focusing on the micro-mechanics of wet solids in gas-solid contactors before becoming an assistant professor in the Power Flow group. He is set to be promoted to associate professor in 2025 and is the recipient of an ERC starting grant in 2025.
