Biography

Yan Liang is a Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at Brown University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Geology from Peking University in 1984, followed by a Master of Science in Geosciences from the University of Houston in 1989. He completed his Ph.D. in Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago in 1994. After a postdoctoral position at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he joined the faculty at Brown University in 1998. Liang's research interests include experimental geochemistry, mantle petrology, and mantle dynamics. His current work emphasizes models, experiments, and geological observations related to partial melting, melt migration, and melt-rock reactions within heterogeneous mantle environments. He has conducted numerous studies funded by the National Science Foundation, focusing on thermal magmatic histories and diffusion processes in minerals crucial for understanding planetary materials. His scholarly work has been published in leading geochemistry journals, showcasing his contributions to the field of geosciences.
