Biography

Yan Shen joined the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria in 2011. He is passionate about helping organizations and individuals understand the impact of globalization on the changing career landscape and the importance of building high-quality relationships for career and personal development. His primary research focuses on expatriates, repatriation, developmental relationships, and cultures, with an emphasis on how these factors influence individuals' career trajectories, especially for those living and working in foreign countries. He is particularly interested in issues related to China and emerging economies. His work has appeared in notable journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Human Relations, and the International Journal of Human Resource Management, among others. Yan has received several prestigious awards recognizing his contributions to the field of career studies, including multiple accolades from the Academy of Management's Careers Division. Before his tenure at UVic, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Boston University and served at Donghua University's School of Management in Shanghai, China.
