Yan Tang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Illinois University. His current research focuses on speech technologies, particularly speech intelligibility enhancement in adverse listening conditions. He explores computational modeling of speech perception and noise, as well as developing perceptually-motivated context-sensitive speech modification algorithms. His interests also extend to speech perception and production in non-ideal listening conditions, psychoacoustics, source separation, and robust automatic speech recognition. Dr. Tang holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics (Computational Speech Hearing) from Universidad del País Vasco, Spain. He completed his MSc in Computer Science at the University of Sheffield, UK, as well as an MSc in Environmental Chemistry and a BSc in Environmental Engineering from Sichuan University and Chengdu University of Technology, China, respectively. Throughout his academic career, he has taught various courses, including Linguistics Laboratory and Machine Learning, and has held additional affiliations with the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology and the Center for East Asian Pacific Studies.
