Yan Wang is an Early Career Research Fellow in the Integrative Cardiovascular Pharmacology Group at Monash University. With over ten years of experience in cardiovascular pharmacology, both in vivo and in vitro, she has significantly contributed to the field. Yan joined Prof. Widdop's research group to undertake her 3rd-year research project and completed her Honours Degree with 1st class Honours in 2012. Her research has focused on novel treatments for cardiovascular and renal diseases, particularly related to end-organ damage such as fibrosis of the heart and kidney. In collaboration with her colleagues at Monash University, she has synthesized several novel peptides that exhibit high selectivity for the AT2 receptor and show marked anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory effects. Her expertise also led to the establishment of a robust high-throughput cell assay for anti-fibrotic drug screening and a new myocardial infarction model in Australia. Yan has been an active member of HBPRCA and ASCEPT, presenting her work at annual meetings and receiving multiple awards for her research contributions, including the ASCEPT Cardiovascular Special Interest Group Poster Prize. Her long-term goal is to be an independent translational researcher focusing on discovering and testing novel treatments for cardiovascular and renal diseases and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals concerning health and well-being.
