Biography

Yan Xiao is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at USC Viterbi School of Engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Tianjin University in 1982 and both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. from Kyushu University, obtained in 1986 and 1989, respectively. His research focuses on seismic analysis and design of structures, experimental analysis of structures and materials, and the implementation of new materials in structural design and retrofit. Additionally, Professor Xiao has made significant contributions to the development of modern bamboo structures.
