Biography

Yana Fedortchouk is a professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Dalhousie University. She has expertise in the origin and evolution of kimberlites and the processes related to diamond transport from the mantle to the Earth's surface. Her research focuses on how natural diamonds and their surface features are influenced by partial dissolution and the ascent of kimberlite magma. Fedortchouk employs both experimental high-pressure studies and the analysis of natural diamond parcels to investigate the crystallization conditions of kimberlites and the factors affecting the preservation of diamonds in kimberlite pipes. She aims to develop geochemical tools that can predict the quality of diamonds that can be recovered from kimberlites, marking a significant contribution to the understanding of diamond formation and preservation dynamics within the subcratonic mantle.
