Biography

Yana G. Kamberov is an Associate Professor in the Biomedical Graduate Studies at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Kamberov holds a B.A. in Molecular Biology and Biological Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania (2000) and obtained her Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Harvard University (2008). Her research expertise focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying human skin appendage development, evolution, and regeneration. The Kamberov lab employs classical developmental genetics and high-throughput transcriptomics, as well as in vivo genome editing in studying mouse and human skin, and investigates the evolutionary adaptations of skin traits among different species. Current projects in the lab explore niche formation and maintenance in skin, as well as the comparative development of skin appendages across primate species.
