Biography

Yanchen Zheng is a Senior Research Associate focused on hydrology, with extensive expertise in floods, ungauged catchments, and the coupling of surface-groundwater models. His research primarily revolves around large sample hydrological data analysis and the understanding and prediction of extreme hydrological events in changing environments. He has developed flood estimation methods tailored for ungauged catchments. His doctoral research concentrated on building a flexible framework for estimating event runoff coefficients, which has been validated using catchments in Great Britain, ultimately contributing to flood estimation in ungauged areas. Currently, Zheng is working on integrating groundwater models with hydrological models to assess the impacts of human-water interactions during hydrological droughts. Additionally, he is involved in several significant projects including the planning phase for flood and drought research infrastructure in the UK and the third phase of the National System Simulation Modelling Project, funded by Ofwat, collaborating with colleagues from the University of Oxford, the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, the British Geological Survey, and the Environment Agency.
