Biography

Yang Lu is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from the University of Southern California in 2017. Previously, he earned an M.S. in Computer Science Engineering and a B.S. in Computer Software Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China in 2013 and 2010, respectively. His research focuses on developing machine learning statistical methods for genomics and proteomics, emphasizing interpretable machine learning, reproducible error-controlled machine learning, and heterogeneous data integration. He is also involved in creating interpretation methods to identify scientifically interesting and statistically confident hypotheses from complex biological data, including single-cell genomics, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, and metagenomics. Yang is actively engaged in publishing his findings and contributing to the field of computational biology.
