Biography

Yanjun (Judy) Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Holding degrees from Beijing Medical University and extensive residency training in both ophthalmology and neurology, Dr. Chen specializes in neuro-ophthalmology. Her primary focus is on diagnosing and treating vision problems that arise from various neurological and systemic diseases. Dr. Chen’s research investigates the adverse effects of age-related ocular diseases on the physical and psychosocial well-being of the aging population. She studies the relationship between eye health and general health, particularly through the lens of pupil reactivity, and explores the ipRGC-mediated light reflex—a special type of pupil response that serves as a link between the eyes and the brain. Her work is notably connected to the Beaver Dam Offspring Study (BOSS), a large longitudinal epidemiological research project that assesses ipRGC-mediated pupil reactivity in relation to cognitive measures in participants.
