Biography

Professor Yanling Wang has been a member of the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) at Carleton University since July 2003. She holds a PhD in Economics from Georgetown University, along with an MA in Economics from the same institution, and a BA from Renmin University of China. Professor Wang's significant academic contributions focus on empirical analyses of international trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) at macro and micro levels. Her PhD dissertation examined the effects of imports from developed countries on productivity in developing nations, arguing that imports incorporate technologies from producing countries. She has conducted extensive analysis on the impact of FDI on productivity and survival of Canadian manufacturing plants. Professor Wang's recent research includes examining the behaviors of Chinese firms in the context of global trade dynamics and the effects of Canada's free trade agreements on firms' global value chains. She has published her findings in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Canadian Journal of Economics and Economic Inquiry. In addition to her research, she has held leadership roles and served on various committees, including as President of the Canadian Women Economists Network and the Chinese Economists Society. Professor Wang is dedicated to mentoring students interested in empirical research related to international trade and FDI.
