Biography

Yao Liu, MD MS, is a leading clinician-scientist specializing in ophthalmology and visual sciences. He serves as the William Phyllis Huffman Research Professor and Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin, where he also directs the Teleophthalmology Program and oversees the Glaucoma Service as Chief and Fellowship Director. With a commitment to leveraging new technologies, Dr. Liu enhances the understanding and management of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy—two significant vision-threatening eye diseases. His expertise encompasses imaging, telemedicine, and clinical trials for new medications and surgical devices. By aiming to prevent blindness through innovative eye care access, Dr. Liu is at the forefront of teleophthalmology, merging clinical practices with advanced technological approaches. His academic foundation includes a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Harvard College, an MD from Harvard Medical School, and an MS in Clinical Investigation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he has been instrumental in advancing research in the field.
