Yao Wang is a recognized expert in video coding, networked video applications, medical imaging, and computer vision. He joined the faculty of the Polytechnic Institute of New York University in 1990, becoming an assistant professor, then an associate professor in 1996, and a full professor in 2000. His accolades include the New York City Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Science & Technology in 2000, the IEEE Communications Society Leonard G. Abraham Prize Paper Award in 2004, and the IEEE Communications Society Multimedia Communication Technical Committee Paper Award in 2011. Wang has received multiple awards in China, including the Overseas Outstanding Young Investigator Award from the Natural Science Foundation in 2005 and the Yangtze River Lecture Scholar title by the Ministry of Education in 2007. He has been involved in significant research projects funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, and leads research at NYU WIRELESS, an innovative center focusing on next-generation wireless technologies.
