Dr. Yaoheng Yang

Biography

Yaoheng Yang is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, where he received the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. Prior to that, he completed his Master’s and Bachelor's degrees at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on employing multidisciplinary approaches across physics, electrical engineering, and neuroscience to tackle critical challenges in non-invasive, spatiotemporally precise neuromodulation. His notable achievements include achieving artificial hibernation using non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, developing preclinical and clinical focused ultrasound instrumentation for precise brain stimulation, and innovating sonogenetics for cell-type specific neuromodulation. His work has been published in prestigious journals including Nature Metabolism and PNAS Radiology, and he has received four international awards, including the Nadine Barrie Smith Award. Dr. Yang's research has been featured in major media outlets such as Science and The New York Times, and he contributes to science communication and education on online platforms, with his collaborative content amassing over 3 million views.
