PI Yaowen Wu received BS Chemistry from Sun Yat-sen University in 2001 and MS Organic Chemistry from Tsinghua University in 2004 in China. He graduated with a Dr rer. nat. in 2008 from Technische Universität Dortmund, where he worked at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Germany. He completed a postdoctoral study in cell biology at King’s College London and led a group at the Max Planck Institute Dortmund in 2010. In 2012, Yaowen became a group leader in Chemical Genomics at the Max Planck Society and was appointed Professor of Biochemistry at Umeå University in 2018. He has served as Director of the Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR) since 2020. His research focuses on developing small molecules and innovative chemical methods to modify proteins and manipulate protein functions in biological systems, particularly regarding the regulatory mechanisms of membrane trafficking and autophagy. Yaowen has received several honors, including the Göran Gustafsson Prize in Molecular Biology for his innovative studies of intracellular transport and autophagy.
