Biography

Yaprak Gürsoy is a Professor of European Politics and the Chair of Contemporary Turkish Studies at the London School of Economics (LSE). She previously held the position of Senior Lecturer and Undergraduate Programme Director in Politics and International Relations at Aston University. Additionally, she served as a Senior Fellow at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford, and an Associate Professor at Istanbul Bilgi University. Yaprak obtained her PhD in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia in 2008, focusing her research on regime change, democratization, civil-military relations, and the influence of the European Union on domestic politics. Her works include publications on Turkey and Greece, as well as Southern Europe, and she has received the Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) from the Turkish Science Academy for her promising research in 2016 and the Alumni Award from Koç University in 2023. Her notable publications include 'Transformation of Civil-Military Relations in Turkey' and 'Military Rule and Democracy: Regime Consolidation in Greece and Turkey'. She is a co-founder and co-convener of the Turkish Politics Specialist Group at the Political Studies Association and has been a council member of the British Association for Turkish Area Studies. Yaprak continues to explore areas such as Turkey-UK relations and Turkish politics in relation to Europe.
