Biography

Professor Yaser S. Abu-Mostafa is a distinguished faculty member specializing in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the California Institute of Technology. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Cairo University in 1979, followed by a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1981, and completed his Ph.D. at Caltech in 1983. Since then, he has held various academic positions, progressing from Assistant Professor in 1983 to his current role as a full Professor since 1994. Professor Abu-Mostafa's research interests lie chiefly in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, particularly their applications in medical technology. He focuses on the development of non-invasive ultrasound technologies for accurately measuring arterial blood pressure and other vital parameters. His work utilizes AI techniques to improve measurement accuracy in clinical settings, and he is involved in collaborative research aiming to detect Congestive Heart Failure conditions. Professor Abu-Mostafa has been instrumental in producing innovative methodologies that aim to address real-world medical challenges using machine learning algorithms. His ongoing projects also include the development of techniques to identify mini clots in the bloodstream, which is crucial for stroke prediction and prevention.
