Yashar Mehmani is an assistant professor in the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering (EME) at Penn State University. He has co-funded faculty positions at the Institutes of Energy and Environment (IEE). His research interests broadly relate to porous media flow mechanics, with a special focus on computing scale translation. Mehmani is particularly interested in understanding how microscale physics affects macroscopic observations to develop predictive tools based on established knowledge. His research applications are motivated by sustainability aspects of subsurface energy production, groundwater contamination, and renewable resources. He completed his undergraduate education at Sharif University of Technology in Iran, followed by a Ph.D. in Petroleum Geosystems Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Before joining Penn State, he was a postdoctoral fellow and research associate in the Energy Resources Engineering Department at Stanford University.
