Biography

Yasheng Huang is the Epoch Foundation Professor of International Management and Global Economics Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has served as the associate dean in charge of MIT Sloan's Global Partnership programs and Action Learning initiatives between 2013 and 2017. Huang has held faculty positions at the University of Michigan and Harvard Business School. He has authored 11 books and numerous academic papers focusing on topics such as regulatory transparency, historical autocracy, and the political economy in China. His forthcoming book, 'Rise and Fall of the East: How Exams and Autocracy Brought China Success and Lead to Decline', will be published by Yale University Press in 2025, while another book, 'Statism with Chinese Characteristics', is under contract with Cambridge University Press. Huang is collaborating on a comprehensive database of Chinese historical inventions and is involved in large-scale research on food safety in China. His work spans many forms of media, including contributions to The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, and he has been an influential voice in shaping US-China relations through various consulting and advisory roles. He has founded and managed several labs aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and development in Asia and has received prestigious fellowships such as the National Fellowship from Stanford University.
