Yasmin Farhat completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington, where she investigated how environmental changes influence the nutritional quality and contamination of rice, a global staple crop and the main caloric source for low-income countries. She then completed her postdoctoral research at the American University of Beirut, where she co-led the Lebanese team on an EU-sponsored project aimed at implementing Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFe) Nexus solutions in the Mediterranean. Yasmin works closely with Lebanese agricultural producers, businesses, and researchers to develop and assess solutions that enhance local capacity and navigate potential tradeoffs associated with the WEFe Nexus. She is currently a recipient of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) Postdoc Fellowship, focusing her research on the effects of elevated temperatures and CO2 levels on the uptake of toxic arsenic compounds in rice.
