Dr. Yasmin Khan

Biography

Professor Yasmin Khan specializes in Modern History at the University of Oxford, where she is a member of the Kellogg College. Her research focuses on the themes of warfare, migration, and displacement in modern South Asia and Britain’s imperial history. Khan's work is notably influenced by her interest in social histories and mobilities of modern South Asians in the twentieth century. She has received significant funding for her research from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Leverhulme Trust. In 2019-20, she was awarded a Mid-Career Fellowship by the British Academy. Throughout her academic career, Khan has held various teaching positions at institutions including the University of Edinburgh and Royal Holloway, University of London, before returning to Oxford in 2012. Her scholarly interests include refugees, British imperial histories, race, and migration, particularly in the context of South Asia post-1947. In addition, Khan actively seeks to connect academic research with wider audiences and has worked with organizations like the Imperial War Museum. She serves as an editor for two journals, the History Workshop Journal and Historical Research, thereby contributing to the field's discourse.
