Biography

Yasser Mohamed received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 2008. He worked as a Research Engineer in the Aerospace Industry before becoming a research teaching assistant at the University of Waterloo. He has held various academic positions at the University of Alberta, where he became a Full Professor in 2017 in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His highly cited research covers modeling, analysis, stability, control, and optimization of power electronic converters and microgrids, emphasizing grid integration of renewable energy resources and energy storage systems. Yasser has participated in numerous industrial research and development projects with major companies and serves in editorial roles for prestigious IEEE journals. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association, and he has received several awards recognizing his contributions to Electrical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence in smart grids.
