Biography

Yassin A. Hassan is a Professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is a University Distinguished Professor and holds the L.F. Peterson '36 Chair II professorship. As the Director of the Center for Advanced Small Modular Microreactors (CASMR) and an affiliated faculty member in Multidisciplinary Engineering, he has significantly contributed to the field. Hassan has held prestigious positions such as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Nuclear Engineering Design and Associate Editor for the Journal of Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification. His research focuses mainly on Computational and Experimental Thermal Hydraulics, Reactor Safety, Fluid Mechanics, Two-Phase Flow, and Turbulence & Laser Velocimetry. He has been recognized with numerous awards including the American Nuclear Society Seaborg Medal and the James N. Landis Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Dr. Hassan’s extensive educational background includes a Ph.D. and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Alexandria in Egypt. He has served as a Fellow in various esteemed organizations promoting advancements in science and engineering and continues to be an influential figure in nuclear engineering research.
