Dr. Ye Liu

Biography

Ye Liu is a Reader in the Department of International Development at King's College London. Before joining King's, she was a Senior Lecturer in International Education at Bath Spa University from 2013 to 2016 and a Lecturer in Contemporary Chinese Studies at University College Cork in Ireland, where she served as the Director of the BA program in Chinese Studies from 2012 to 2013. Ye has received several early-career awards, including the 2014 Junior Sociologist Prize from the Research Committee on Women and Society of the International Sociological Association and the 2014 SRHE Newer Researcher Award. She earned her PhD in Comparative Sociology from the Institute of Education at the University of London. Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including Sociology, Work, Employment & Society, International Affairs, and the British Journal of Sociology of Education. Her scholarly contributions also include writing for platforms such as Foreign Affairs and Diplomat, with her research featured by the Financial Guardian and BBC News. She has appeared on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, showcasing her work on gender relations, the one-child policy in China, and its implications on social attitudes and demographic challenges.
