Biography

Yen Hoang Ngoc completed her PhD in Anthropology at the Australian National University (ANU) and is currently a Lecturer at the School of Culture, History and Language, College of Asia Pacific, ANU. Her work as a medical anthropologist focuses on chronic diseases, environmental health, food, and stigmatised conditions including disabilities. Her research highlights the experiences of individuals with chronic conditions in Vietnam, particularly in understanding the intersections of health, food safety, and environmental contamination. Recently, she has engaged with various communities, including farmers and health professionals, to discuss the impacts of climate change and environmental health issues. Her notable academic accolades include the J.G. Crawford Prize for her PhD thesis at ANU in 2016 and several awards from the Society for Applied Anthropology. With experience at leading research institutions in Vietnam, Japan, and Australia, she has contributed significantly to public health projects within Vietnam. Additionally, she held a JSPS postdoctoral research fellowship at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University. Her research interests include environmental health, food studies, and chronic diseases, and she has published various works addressing these topics.
