Biography

Yeong Shiong Chiew graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical-Automotive and a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his PhD from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where he focused on investigating model-based mechanical ventilation for patients experiencing respiratory failure. Following his graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Bioengineering at the University of Canterbury, leading a large randomized controlled trial in mechanical ventilation. He is currently an Associate Professor at Monash University, where he has pioneered clinical trials involving model-based mechanical ventilation in collaboration with local hospitals in Singapore. His research spans the development of physiological models, system identification methods, and clinical decision-making metrics. Chiew's areas of interest include biomedical engineering, research methodology, and translational medical research, as well as mechanical system design and virtual reality technology.
