Dr. Yi Ren Chen

Biography

Dr. Yi-Ren Chen is a neurosurgeon specializing in spine surgery and serves as the Chief of Neurosurgery at Mercy Medical Group in Sacramento, California. He is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford University. Dr. Chen holds dual degrees with a double major in Biology and History from Stanford University, earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Stanford, and completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) at Johns Hopkins University. He has undergone extensive training, including a neurosurgery residency and a complex spine fellowship, both at Stanford University. With over 150 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, talks, and abstracts to his name, Dr. Chen's clinical interests lie in minimally invasive spine procedures, scoliosis deformity, redo and revision spinal surgery, and general neurosurgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Through his research, he focuses on clinical outcomes for spine patients by utilizing large-scale nationwide databases and single-center patient information with an aim to improve quality of care, patient satisfaction, and hospital-wide outcomes.
