Biography

Yi Sheng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at York University. His research focuses on understanding the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and how aberrations in this system contribute to the pathogenesis of diseases. Ubiquitination is a post-translational modification where ubiquitin molecules are covalently attached to substrate proteins, which alters their function and fate within the cell. This highly dynamic regulatory process plays a critical role in fundamental cellular processes including cell cycle control, cell signaling, and the regulation of protein stability and turnover. Deregulation of protein ubiquitination has been implicated in a wide array of human diseases, including cancers, immune disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms that regulate protein ubiquitination is essential for elucidating the role of the UPS in disease pathogenesis and for developing new therapeutic strategies.
