Biography

Yi Wang, Ph.D., obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Physics from Fudan University in 1986 and completed his PhD in Medical Physics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1994. He pursued postdoctoral training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1996. Wang is currently a tenured Professor in Physics and Radiology and serves as the Director of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Research Institute at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). He also holds the title of Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University. His research primarily focuses on the application of data science, machine learning, and optimization techniques to medical imaging, notably through developments in quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and quantitative transport mapping (QTM). These methodologies enable precise measurement and analysis of tissue properties relevant to various medical conditions, including neurodegeneration and inflammation. Wang's work has significant implications for enhancing clinical practices in MRI and other imaging modalities.
