Yi Zhang serves as the Fred S. Rosen endowed Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. He is also an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Zhang received a Bachelor of Science degree from China Agricultural University in 1984 and completed his Ph.D. at Florida State University in 1995. He underwent postdoctoral training at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of UMDNJ, where he identified and characterized the Sin3 NuRD histone deacetylase complexes. He later became an independent investigator at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was honored as a Howard Hughes Investigator and Kenan Distinguished Professor. In 2012, he joined Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School as the Fred Rosen Professor of Pediatrics. Zhang’s research focuses on epigenetic modifications, particularly in understanding how DNA methylation and covalent histone modifications regulate chromatin dynamics and influence gene expression and cell fate. His lab is dedicated to exploring the role of epigenetic factors in various diseases, including diabetes, neurological disorders, and cancer.
