Dr. Yian Yin

Biography

Yian Yin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Science at Cornell Bowers University. His research primarily applies and develops novel computational tools to understand individual, social, and environmental processes, both independently and jointly, to promote or inhibit scientific progress and innovation achievements. As a computational social scientist, Yian uses the concepts of science and innovation as a powerful lens to examine broader processes and outcomes across a wide range of complex social processes, including artistic and cultural productions, public policy, media attention, market competition, and human conflict. His work has been published in leading general audience venues such as Science, Nature, and Nature Human Behaviour, and has been featured in media outlets including Forbes, Scientific American, the Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, and MIT Technology Review. In 2023, he was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the Science category. Yian received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from Northwestern University and has research affiliations with the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems and the Kellogg Center for Science and Science Innovation. He also holds bachelor's degrees in Statistics and Economics from Peking University.
