Biography

Yichun Liu is the founding principal of Atelier Deshaus, one of the earliest independent architectural practices established in China. Based in Shanghai, the studio is widely recognized for its thoughtful and context-sensitive responses to the rapidly evolving urban conditions in contemporary China. Liu serves as a visiting professor at Tongji University and Southeast University and is an active member of various editorial boards, including that of the Architect Architectural Journal. He has been invited to lecture at prestigious institutions, including Harvard University, the University of Virginia, and the University of Hong Kong, among others. His work has been extensively published in international journals such as a+u, Domus, and Architectural Record. Liu’s representative projects, including the Long Museum West Bund and the Riverside Passage, are notable for their structural interventions that reframe spatial memory and regenerate public life. He has received numerous accolades for his work, including the AR Emerging Architecture Award and the RIBA International Award for Excellence. In 2023, he received the Architecture China Award for Practice, and his work has been featured in major international exhibitions.
