Biography

Yifang Ban is a Professor and Director of the Division of Geoinformatics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Joining KTH as a full professor in 2004, he previously held a tenured Associate Professor position at York University in Toronto, Canada. He earned his PhD from the University of Waterloo in 1996 and received a certificate in Leading Sustainability: High Impact Leadership from the University of Cambridge in 2023. Professor Ban's research focuses on Earth observation big data analytics and machine learning/deep learning, particularly in applications for environmental change monitoring, including urbanization, wildfires, and flooding to support sustainable and resilient development. He has been recognized as one of the world's top 2% scientists in Geological Geomatics Engineering and has led numerous impactful projects, such as EO-AI4GlobalChange and HARMONIA, funded by EU and other organizations. Additionally, he has contributed to various scientific committees, served as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, and been actively involved in international remote sensing conferences.
