Biography

Professor Yifeng Yang is an expert in Cryogenics and Superconductivity with over 30 years of experience in the enabling sciences of high temperature superconductors, development of high field magnets, and novel cryogenic engineering applications for fundamental sciences. As the Director of the Institute of Cryogenics at the University of Southampton since 2004, he has successfully secured over £10 million in funding from UK research councils, European industry, and collaborations with international organizations such as ITER and CERN. His research is focused on superconducting devices, including high field superconducting magnets and motors, low temperature superconducting cables, and the measurement of thermo-electrical and mechanical properties in materials at cryogenic temperatures. Professor Yang is a member and vice chairman of the International Cryogenic Engineering Committee and leads several research initiatives involving advanced superconductors and AC loss characterizations for superconducting magnets. His contributions to the academic community have been recognized internationally, making him one of the leading experts in the field.
