Biography

Yigal Arens is a Research Professor Emeritus at the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. He is also the Senior Director of Administrative Affairs at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI). In this role, he oversees the institute's administrative operations and works closely with division leaders to foster a culture of excellence in operational performance. Prior to his current position, Arens was the director of ISI's Intelligent Systems division for 15 years, where he led a team of over 100 researchers and students in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). His research focuses on information integration, particularly in the context of medical study data. Arens received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and has been involved in various projects, including the Integrated Interfaces project and the SIMS (Single Interface Multiple Sources) research group. He has also contributed to the Digital Government Research Center and co-founded the Digital Government Society. His main research interests include computational infrastructure for biomedical applications, digital government, intelligent access to heterogeneous information sources, human-computer interaction, and natural language understanding.
