Biography

Yihao Yuan studies empirical industrial organization with a primary focus on vertical contracting, economics, and digitization. Yuan joined the faculty of UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2025 and teaches Statistics and Data Analytics in Anderson’s MSBA program. His broad interest lies in antitrust and he deeply cares about how industry practices and policies affect market outcomes and consumer welfare. He is particularly interested in how firms form contracts and partnerships, such as content licensing deals negotiated between streaming services and studios. His current projects concern exclusive contracts, subscription plan versioning, and group purchasing organizations, especially in the rapidly evolving video streaming market. UCLA’s strong connection to the entertainment industry and the alignment of academic interests in empirical industrial organization and marketing were central to Yuan's decision to join the faculty. Los Angeles, as a vibrant and beautiful city, also contributed to the choice, as it aligns well with his research interests.
