Biography

Yiliang Chen is an Assistant Professor at the UW Comprehensive Diabetes Center, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He holds a PhD and focuses his research on macrophage metabolism pathways, including fatty acid metabolism, glycolysis, and oxidative phosphorylation. His work investigates how these metabolic pathways in macrophages dictate their activation in chronic inflammatory conditions, particularly those related to atherosclerosis, diabetes, and obesity. Chen's research has contributed to the understanding of chronic inflammatory diseases linked to metabolic reprogramming and the production of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species. He utilizes both in vitro and in vivo mice models to explore the molecular mechanisms that lead to sustained macrophage activation.
