Biography

Yiming Deng is a Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies at the Michigan State University (MSU) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has extensive experience in sensors, sensing systems, and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) systems as well as structural health monitoring (SHM). His current research focuses on NDE in advanced manufacturing, specifically NDE 4.0 and 5.0, AI-enabled NDE/SHM systems, uncertainty quantification, and statistical methods for NDE. He is interested in developing novel NDE/SHM sensors and systems that involve multi-physics simulations and experimental validation for a wide range of engineering applications, aiming to ensure the safety, security, reliability, and sustainability of critical energy transportation infrastructures. His work has been recognized with numerous funding sources, including the Department of Energy and National Science Foundation, and has resulted in over 190 peer-reviewed publications along with several pending U.S. patents.
