Biography

Yimon Aye is a Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of Oxford and a tutorial fellow at Pembroke College. Born and raised in Burma, Aye received a full scholarship to attend Cambridge Tutors College in the UK and later pursued a degree in chemistry at Somerville College, Oxford, where he worked with notable professors such as Stephen L. Buchwald and Stephen G. Davies as an undergraduate research assistant. After earning his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Harvard University under the supervision of David Evans, Aye conducted research at MIT focusing on cellular biochemical regulatory mechanisms related to ribonucleotide reductase. Since beginning his independent career in 2012, he has dedicated his work to understanding the mechanisms of electrophile signaling and has developed “REX” technologies, aimed at probing cellular processes in depth. Aye's research spans multiple disciplines, employing organic chemistry, biochemistry, and genetic approaches to investigate complex life processes with important implications for human health. His contributions to the field have led to editorial roles, including as an Associate Editor for ACS Chemical Biology and Editor-in-Chief for Current Opinion in Chemical Biology starting January 2025.
